Painted Blue was recently awarded two silver medals for this coffee as part of the Golden Bean Australasia Competition. 

We have a selected this new Season Organic Ethiopian from Kayon Mountain Farm for you to enjoy.

It has a syrupy sweetness, hibiscus florals, packed with jammy fruit combos of blueberry and red grape, perfect to start your day, unwind or serve up cold.

This offering from Guji Region is a Natural processed coffee, that zings with complexity and a syrupy mouthful. It is delicious!

The Kayon Mountain Coffee Farm is 500 hectares with about 300 hectares planted in coffee and has been owned and operated by Ismael Hassen Aredo and his family since 2012. It is located 510 kilometers south of Addis Ababa, and the property crosses the border of two villages—Taro and Sewana—located in the Oromia region, in the Guji zone of the Shakiso district of Ethiopia.

Kayon Mountain farm has a nursery on-site and utilizes shade (acacia and other indigenous trees) to protect the coffee as well as for creating compost to fertilize naturally. Ismael is meticulous about not only the structure and management of the farm itself but also the harvesting and processing. Both Natural and Washed lots are produced on the property.

Widely acknowledged as the birthplace of coffee, Ethiopian coffees are highly respected in the specialty coffee industry.

Ethiopian coffees are classified by region, altitude, and cupping score, rather than by variety. At Painted Blue we are excited to offer these Heirloom varieties.

Ethiopian coffee is typically produced in a sustainable way, with the majority grown as garden coffee. This means that it is planted by farmers close to their houses and is often intercropped with other plants. It’s also common for producers to grow coffee in a semi-forest system, in which natural forest is modified with slashing of weeds and bushes for shade regulation and coffee seedlings are introduced. Only an estimated 5% of coffee production is on a dedicated plantation in Ethiopia.
